Abstract: This paper introduces the concept of a psychologically inspired navigation approach for an autonomous wheelchair. It presents the implementation of the architecture's basic modules and discusses the higher levels of the control-system that are still under development. The recognition of routemarks is of crucial importance in this architecture. An approach for employing 3-D structures of the environment for this purpose is proposed.
