Study course: Systems Engineering (Bachelor)

Many technical products are equipped with important electro-technical and control orientated components nowadays. The significance of control software has increased so heavily that a multidisciplinary collaboration of the scientific disciplines mechanical engineering, electro-technology and applied informatics has become urgent. Such technical systems need to be planned as integrated systems from the beginning (software/hardware co-design). This does not only lead to additional skills needs for graduates of the above mentioned disciplines. It rather demands a new generalised qualification in multidisciplinary system development.

Systems Engineering students are to hold a solid education in the three main disciplines, which does not go as deep into the matter as it would be the case in the classic courses. Instead, students are to conserve their opportunity to develop multidisciplinary thinking and working skills by means of special lectures, internships, laboratories and projects. They are to learn to rethink conventional solutions and replace them with more efficient and lower-cost integrated systems. Depite the broadness and the integrative character of the course, every student has to aquire deeper knowledge in one area s/he focusses on.
