The Horn problem and its reï¬nements
The Horn problem (posed in 1962 on spectra of the sum of two Hermitian matrices) was solved by
Klyachko in 1998. The goal of the talk is two-fold. First, we propose a somewhat different statement
of the solution to the Horn problem and signiï¬cantly more elementary proof. Secondly, for a tuple
(A1, . . . , Am) of Hermitian n × n matrices, we construct a function φ(A1, . . . , Am) deï¬ned at integer
points of a simplex m+1
i=1 xi = n, xi ≥ 0. Our Conjecture is that this function is discretely concave.
We will provide several conï¬rmation for this conjecture. Some other conjectures will be discussed.
