„A short history of Polish mathematics“
Abstract: In my talk I shall explain how Poland - a
country having at the beginning of 20th century
almost none mathematical tradition, could achieve,
within the relatively short period 1919-1939, a good
international position in such fields of mathematics
as functional analysis, topology, set theory, logic
and foundations of mathematics, and real functions
and measure theory. In some detail I shall describe
the Banach (Lwow) school of mathematics.
