Characteristics of a functional unit which can be used to describe and evaluate its quality, but which do not indicate the degree of markedness. A quality characteristic may be refined in sub-characteristics by several levels.
Quality characteristics are functionality, reliability, usability, efficiency, maintainability and portability.
