    2 Brief Characteristics

This service unit defines requirements that guarantee that before being reused by other users resources like main storage or disk areas are prepared in such a way that conclusions on the former content are not possible.

This includes all functions necessary for controlling the preparation for the reuse of objects.

This service unit comprises all functions for

    3 Requirements

    3.1 Requirements for Interfaces

SSEC05.I.1 Interface to SSEC06 - Authenticity, Confidentiality and Liability The service unit SSEC06 is able to initiate the preparation for reuse of reusable storage media.

3.2 Requirements for the Methods Support

    none

    3.3 Requirements for Functions

SSEC05.F.1 Granularity At least the SDE differentiates between the storage objects being subject to the preparation for reuse
    • CPU register,
    • cache memory,
    • floating point coprocessor register,
    • memory of I/O controllers,
    • main storage,
    • blocks or sectors of memory disks (magnetic or optical),
    • blocks or sectors of magnetic tapes,
    • floppy disks.
    SSEC05.F.2 Preparation for reuse
SSEC05.F.2.1 Mechanism Before other users or processes reuse any storage object it is prepared in such a way that there are no conclusions possible concerning its former contents.
    SSEC05.F.2.2 Shaping
SSEC05.F.2.2.1 Deleting Either at the allocation or at the deallocation the former content of any storage object is deleted.
SSEC05.F.2.2.2 Overwriting Either at the allocation or at the deallocation the former contents of any storage object are overwritten with new data to which a new subject may have access (initialization).
SSEC05.F.3 Explicit preparation for reuse It is possible to explicitly activate the physical deletion of information on storage objects.
SSEC05.F.4 Automatic preparation for reuse The content of a storage object is automatically deleted or overwritten when it is released after successful access.
SSEC05.F.5 Preparation for reuse at restart At a restart all storage objects that have not been prepared for reuse are automatically subject to the preparation for reuse.
In the case of a system breakdown it is possible that there are storage objects that have not been prepared for reuse.

    3.4 Other Requirements

    none
