Welcome to the exnemo-project!
On these pages you will learn everything worth knowing about the Citizen MOB game and the project exNeMo. »exNeMo« is short for "experience Novel Mobile Virtual Communities". In this one year (April 2005 - April 2006) project we are developing a rich featured multiplayer game for mobile devices. The exnemo project group consists of 16 M.Sc. Digital Media students at the University of Bremen, Germany.
This project has been basically finished with the final presentation. Please note, that this is a scientific project and therefore will not be available as a public application you can use. The concept now serves as the basis for further work in master theses. There hasn't been taken any decision to make it available to everyone yet, since we lack resources for game servers and management.
Who we are
The master's project is one of the core activities within the Digital Media master's program. The master's
project is unlike projects in many other universities: During two semesters, the project's participants -
16 people - will go through the whole development cycle of a complex system that tries to solve a given,
real-world problem: fundamental research, problem analysis, system design, implementation, installation
and evaluation. The application's problem domain is chosen in order to touch many different aspects of
current digital media.
It is important to note that master's projects are highly self-organized: Professors and assistants will guide
and help, but they will usually not instruct what to do specifically. As a result, we, as participants of a project,
will not only learn about the given subject areas, but will also become acquainted with social dynamics,
project managements and other topics that typically arise in real-life projects.
The project takes place in the second and third semester of our master's program. Because the master's
project is a core part of the master's program, all our outcomes from different courses we participate,
will influence and promote our project work.

Part of the project is the scientific view on several aspects of gaming, community, interface design and design approaches. According to that, we have prepared four papers which we want to publish at magazines and conferences. Today, two texts have been accepted for the International Design and Engagability Conference 2006 NordiCHI (15th of October) in Oslo. See IDEC for more on the conference.
