Deploying VoIP over Public Wireless Networks: Challenges and Perspectives

Bibliographic Entry Dirk Kutscher, Jörg Ott; Deploying VoIP over Public Wireless Networks: Challenges and Perspectives; IQPC VoWLAN Conference 2006; 2006
Abstract

VoIP over WLAN is one specific variant of a (typically) SIP-based voice service that can be deployed in different scenarios, e.g., in private homes, enterprises, and public networks. This talk describes the specific challenges of deploying VoIP in public wireless networks that do not necessarily have to be limited to WLAN but will also include 3G, WiMAX, mobile wireless broadband networks in the future. We will present some strategies for deploying VoIP in today's existing WLAN hotspots and look at interoperation issues with existing commercial VoIP services such as enterprise services or hosted IP telephony services. The talk will also highlight some chances for future VoIP services that are directly relevant to VoIP in public wireless networks.
