Job openings
: We are seeking applicants
for
3 graduate student positions
in either my group or the group of
Dmitry Feichtner-Kozlov
at the
University of Bremen. Recent graduates with interest and background in algebra, topology, geometry and/or discrete mathematics: we are offering exciting
research opportunities in Combinatorial Algebraic Topology, Tropical Geometry
and related fields. Please check the official
job announcement of the University and our posting at academics.de!
Closing date for applications is Feb 29, 2008.
I will give a lecture series on combinatorial aspects
of tropical geometry at the introductory workshop of the spring program
Real and tropical algebraic geometry

A half year program on
Tropical Geometry
at MSRI
proposed by Ilia Itenberg, Grigory
Mikhalkin, Bernd Sturmfels and myself has been approved for
the fall of 2009!
Check out the official announcement

In the fall of 2006, I have spent 2 months at MSRI as a
research professor within the program
Computational Applications of Algebraic Topology.
While at MSRI, I co-organized a 1-day workshop on Tropical Geometry with Bernd Sturmfels. The result is a list of the top ten open problems in Tropical Geometry from an algebraic and combinatorial viewpoint. Have a look!
I was co-organizing a workshop at MSRI in August 2006:
Recent Developments in Arrangements and Configuration Spaces.
It was dedicated to
Sergey Yuzvinsky,
on the occasion of his 70th birthday.
Our daughter
Esther Yael Feichtner was born on August 9, 2006 in Zurich!
My graduate student Emanuele Delucchi has
defended his thesis at ETH Zürich in July 2006. Congratulations!
