Recent progress in the topology of simplicial complexes


Abstract [ps] [pdf]: This talk surveys recent results in the combinatorial topology of simplicial complexes, focussing on the topics of algebraic shifting and spectra of combinatorial Laplace operators.

It turns out that these results draw attention to an unlikely heroine: the shifted simplicial complex. We attempt to build a case for studying these objects more closely.
