Centre of Excellence "Women in the Information Society and in Technology"

The Centre of Excellence ties together nation-wide equal opportunity measures in the fields of education, training, occupations, science and research. It aims to continually raise the percentage of women in IT occupations, engineering sciences and informatics through target group oriented project work, effective publicity and in co-operation with nationally and internationally active women expert groups.

The "Women give new Impetus to Technology" association is responsible for carrying out this centre of excellence. The members of this association include members of women-expert groups, technical businesses, research centres, engineers' associations and the German Federal Office of Employment. The structural development of the Centre of Excellence is financially supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, and from the German Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth until 2005 to the sum of 5 million Euro.

European Union

The Federal Government of Germany has adopted the goal of implementing the strategy of gender mainstreaming as anchored in the Amsterdam Treaty on European Union and of introducing the equality of women and men as a guiding principle informing all policy fields, programmes and measures.
