Assisting Software Developers to Implement Hardware Solutions

The demands on computers in our lives is ever increasing. Higher performance, lower power, quicker time to market, and lower cost are just some of the constraints that drive industry. One solution to help achieve these goals is to build more "dedicated" hardware solutions. Field Programmable Gate Arrays have emerged as an example technology that can be better suited to meet user needs and can be utilized by a larger user domain. One goal is to make it easy for software programmers to become hardware designers. In this talk, I will identify several areas of improvement where we are developing tools to further assist the hardware design process. Some preliminary data will be presented to show the early results of our work.
